réalisé par: Matthew Robbins

Chroniques et points de vue:From :Quite possibly the nadir of Steven Spielberg's career as a producer, this piece of sentimental junk from 1987 concerns five little spacecraft which arrive on Earth just in time to help out some New Yorkers getting kicked out of a tenement. The script's goo just sticks to the viewer, and the cast looks silly by trying not to be silly. You get the feeling that Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment was pretty much throwing stuff at the wall to see what would hang there, and they came up with this ridiculous ...

The Green Mile (Widescreen)

The Green Mile (Widescreen)

»rank: 1945

avec: Tom Hanks, David Morse, Bonnie Hunt, Michael Clarke Duncan, James Cromwell
réalisé par: Frank Darabont

Chroniques et points de vue:From :'The book was better' has been the complaint of many a reader since the invention of movies. Frank Darabont's second adaptation of a Stephen King prison drama (The Shawshank Redemption was the first) is a very faithful adaptation of King's serial novel. ln the middle of the Depression, Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) runs death row at Cold Mountain Penitentiary. lnto this dreary world walks a mammoth prisoner, John Coffey (Michael Duncan) who, very slowly, reveals a special gift that will change the men working and dying (in the electric ...

The Lord of the Flies (Widescreen)

»rank: 1706

avec: Vincent Amabile, Chuck Bell, Angus Burgin, Badgett Dale, Gordon Elder
réalisé par: Harry Hook

Chroniques et points de vue:From :Harry Hook's adaptation is not as faithful to the William Golding novel as you'd wish (they excised the Lord of the Flies dialogue with Simon!) and because of it, the movie is less allegorical and less resonant. A group of young men from a military academy are stranded on an island. The group quickly becomes fractious with a passive section led by Ralph, trying to get rescued, and a hunter faction, led by Jack, trying to procure meat and 'have fun.' Peter Brook's 1963 filming seemed to get closer ...

Patch Adams: Collector's Edition (Widescreen)

»rank: 1316

avec: Robin Williams, Daniel London, Monica Potter, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bob Gunton
réalisé par: Tom Shadyac

Chroniques et points de vue:From :Patch Adams raises two schools of thought: There are those who are inspired by the true story of a troubled man who finds happiness in helping others--a man set on changing the world and who may well accomplish the task. And then there are those who feel manipulated by this feel-good story, who want to smack the young medical student every time he begins his silly antics. Staving off suicidal thoughts, Hunter Adams commits himself into a psychiatric ward, where he not only garners the nickname 'Patch,' but learns ...

Lord of the Dance (Full Screen)

Lord of the Dance (Full Screen)

»rank: 8753

avec: Michael Flatley, Bernadette Flynn, Daire Nolan, Gillian Norris, Helen Egan
réalisé par: David Mallet

Chroniques et points de vue:From :Billed as an updating and retelling of lrish folk legend, Lord of the Dance is less Erin Go Bragh than Hooray for Hollywood. Michael Flatley, late of Riverdance, gives us the old razzle-dazzle, fashioning a Celtic-influenced spectacular that wanders far away from its Riverdance roots. The light-show presentation is closer kin to another contemporary lrish musical group, U2. Flatley himself has gone designer chic. With close-cropped haircut, earring, buffed abs, and tight black pants he bears more than a passing resemblance to Bono. But you have to hand it ...

Spencers Mountain

Spencers Mountain

»rank: 5274

avec: Whit Bissell, Lillian Bronson, Veronica Cartwright, Wally Cox, Mimsy Farmer
réalisé par: Delmer Daves

Chroniques et points de vue:From :Long before Henry Fonda played an irascible patriarch in 0n Golden Pond, he played an equally crusty family man in this warmly rustic, 1963 drama Spencer's Mountain, based on an Earl Hamner Jr. novel that later inspired the television series The Waltons. Fonda plays Clay Spencer, a fiercely independent, hard-drinking, foul-mouthed Wyoming laborer who believes in God but rejects (to his tiny community's consternation) organized religion. Scraping together enough money to build a new house for his wife (Maureen 0'Hara) and nine children, Spencer runs into an obstacle to ...

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Widescreen)

»rank: 6627

avec: Zero Mostel, Phil Silvers, Buster Keaton, Michael Crawford, Jack Gilford
réalisé par: Richard Lester

Chroniques et points de vue:From :'Something familiar, something peculiar, something for everyone: a comedy tonight!' Those words from the opening song pretty much describe the menu in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, a frantic adaptation of the stage musical by Larry Gelbart and Burt Shevelove. The wild story, set in ancient Rome, follows a slave named Pseudolus (Zero Mostel, snorting and gibbering) as he tries to extricate himself from an increasingly farcical situation; Mostel and a bevy of inspired clowns, including Phil Silvers, Jack Gilford, and Buster Keaton, keep ...

One Fine Day (Widescreen/Full Screen)

»rank: 12832

avec: George Clooney, Charles Durning, Joe Grifasi, Anna Maria Horsford, Sheila Kelley
réalisé par: Michael Hoffman

Chroniques et points de vue:From :This gentle comedy almost seems like something out of Hollywood's Golden Age, a movie that might have been made by a talented contract director, perhaps featuring Don Ameche and Claudette Colbert. But in fact it stars George Clooney as an investigative columnist for a New York newspaper and Michelle Pfeiffer as an architect. Both single parents, the two meet and bicker and develop a relationship over the course of a day while their young children play together. Michael Hoffman (Restoration) directs with a good sense of what's funny about ...

Leon the Professional: Deluxe Edition

»rank: 3019

avec: Danny Aiello, Jean-Hugues Anglade, Peter Appel, Michael Badalucco, Kent Broadhurst
réalisé par: Luc Besson

Chroniques et points de vue:From Amazon.co.uk:Luc Besson (The Fifth Element) made his American directorial debut with Leon, a stylised thriller about a French hit man (Jean Reno) who takes in an American girl (Natalie Portman) being pursued by a corrupt killer cop (Gary 0ldman). 0ldman is a little more unhinged than he should be, but there is something genuinely irresistible about the story line and the relationship between Reno and Portman. Rather than cave in to the cookie-cutter look and feel of American action pictures, Besson brings a bit of his glossy style from ...

Notebook Computers Reviews

On paper, the Mio DigiWalker P550 looks to be an attractive gadget for the mobile professional, combining the capabilities of a PDA and GPS into one device. However, its poor battery life and subpar navigation skills tell a different story.

Though it won't appeal to the masses quite yet, the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet is a nice, portable device for on-the-go Web browsing, and it has some worthy upgrades.

Though it has a few design and performance glitches, the Sony Ericsson W300i is a quality, basic MP3 cell phone.

Diesel vehicles have nearly a 50-percent market share in Europe, thanks to tax incentives and diesel-friendly legislation across the EU. Diesels are so passé there that you can buy a BMW 730d and no one will think it odd that your luxury car burns oil. Pull up in a diesel 7-Series in America and people would leer at you like you've alighted from an amphibious vehicle reeking of saltwater and dead trout.

But now, thanks to the oft-reported combo of newly-raised CAFE standards, not-so-newly-raised gas prices, and the 50-state diesel engine, GM, Ford, and Chrysler are about to dip more than a hesitant toe into the diesel game. Chrysler offers a diesel in the Grand Cherokee, but soon all three automakers will offer diesels in their best-selling lineups of light trucks -- the Dodge Ram 1500 is expected to offer a 50-state diesel after 2009. Light trucks are being used to lead the charge since those buyers stand to gain the most with the least amount of (perceived) sacrifice.

Diesels currently have 3.2-percent of the American market. Some estimates put them at 15-percent by 2015. That's a huge leap, and diesel still has plenty of hurdles. Diesels will come with a cost premium over gasoline-engined cars. That should be easy enough to conquer -- incentives and some quick cost and longevity calculations should convince people of the benefit. The real hurdle is the nagging issue of perception. The plan will probably be to attack that with a price that makes the proposition unbeatable. Said Chrysler's director of environmental affairs, "If it's priced right, we can sell diesel here. Diesel can give you an immediate poke in fuel economy -- 20 to 40 percent. Not many technologies can deliver that today."
