Never Say Never Again (Widescreen)

Never Say Never Again (Widescreen)

»rank: 1763

avec: Sean Connery, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Max von Sydow, Barbara Carrera, Kim Basinger
réalisé par: Irvin Kershner

Chroniques et points de vue:From :After years of enduring Roger Moore in the role of James Bond, it was good to have Sean Connery back in this 1983 film for a one-time-only trip down 007's memory lane. Connery's Bond, a bit of a dinosaur in the British secret service at (then) 52, is still in demand during times of crisis. Sadly, the film is not very good. ln this rehash of Thunderball, Bond is pitted against a worthy underwater villain (Klaus Maria Brandauer); and while the requisite Bond Girls include beauties Kim Basinger and ...

Strange Brew (Widescreen)

Strange Brew (Widescreen)

»rank: 1436

avec: Rick Moranis, Dave Thomas, Glenn Beck, Tom Bell, Mel Blanc
réalisé par: Rick Moranis, Dave Thomas

Chroniques et points de vue:Amazon.ca Canadian Essential: You gotta love a movie filmed in 'hoserama.' Bob and Doug McKenzie (Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas) attempt to scam a free case of beer from the Elsinore brewery, which is, of course, run by a mad scientist, and only our beer-swilling, plaid-shirt-and-ski-toque-wearing heroes can stop him from taking over the world with his sinister brew. Strange Brew is full of stereotypes, sure--but Moranis and Thomas make the most of them. They have so much fun making fun of Canada and 'Canadianess' that they're endearing. They wring ...

What Dreams May Come (Widescreen)

»rank: 900

avec: Rosalind Chao, Jr. Cuba Gooding, Annabella Sciorra, Max von Sydow, Robin Williams
réalisé par: Vincent Ward

Chroniques et points de vue:From :Robin Williams and Annabella Sciorra star in this visually stunning metaphysical tale of life after death. Neurologist Chris and artist Annie had the perfect life until they lost their children in an auto accident; they're just starting to recover when Chris meets an untimely death himself. He's met by a messenger named Albert (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and taken to his own personal afterlife--a freshly drawn world reminiscent of Annie's own artwork, still dripping and wet with paint. Meanwhile a depressed Annie takes her own life, compelling Chris to traverse ...

The Exorcist: The Version You've Never Seen (Widescreen)

»rank: 9438

avec: Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow, Lee J. Cobb, Kitty Winn, Jack MacGowran
réalisé par: William Friedkin

Chroniques et points de vue:From Amazon.co.uk:Director William Friedkin was a hot ticket in Hollywood after the success of The French Connection, and he turned heads (in more ways than one) when he decided to make The Exorcist as his follow-up film. Adapted by William Peter Blatty from his controversial best-seller, this shocking 1973 thriller set an intense and often-copied milestone for screen terror with its unflinching depiction of a young girl (Linda Blair) who is possessed by an evil spirit. Jason Miller and Max von Sydow are perfectly cast as the priests who risk ...

Dune (Extended Edition)

Dune (Extended Edition)

»rank: 9372

avec: Francesca Annis, Leo Cimino, Daniel Bryan Corkill, Brad Dourif, Linda Hunt
réalisé par: David Lynch

Chroniques et points de vue:From :Even more than most of David Lynch's deliberately bizarre and idiosyncratic movies, Dune is a 'love-it-or-hate-it' affair. An ambitious, epic, utterly mind-boggling--and, let's admit it, all-out weird--adaptation of Frank Herbert's classic science fiction novel, Dune remains one of the most controversial films in the director's exceedingly provocative career. The story (if Dune can be said to have just one story) is complex and convoluted in the epic tradition; it has something to do with political intrigue and a planet that is home to a precious spice and gigantic sand ...

Judge Dredd (Widescreen)

Judge Dredd (Widescreen)

»rank: 1048

avec: Sylvester Stallone, Armand Assante, Rob Schneider, Jürgen Prochnow, Max von Sydow
réalisé par: Danny Cannon

Chroniques et points de vue:From :Judge Dredd is one of those movies that doesn't have a brain of its own, so it can only rip off a lot of ingredients from other, better movies. lt's a mishmash of Blade Runner, Total Recall, and The Road Warrior, with a dash of Star Wars tossed in for good measure. As if that weren't enough, it's got Sylvester Stallone, who seems to be the only one in the movie who's in on the game and knows it's all a sci-fi scam. Like The Fifth Element a few ...

Three Days of the Condor (Widescreen)

Three Days of the Condor (Widescreen)

»rank: 11309

avec: Robert Redford, Faye Dunaway, Cliff Robertson, Max von Sydow, John Houseman
réalisé par: Sydney Pollack

Chroniques et points de vue: Essential Video:Robert Redford and Sydney Pollack continued their longtime collaboration (the actor and director have worked together on Jeremiah Johnson, The Way We Were, The Electric Horseman, and 0ut of Africa, among other films) with this taut spy drama. Redford plays a reader for U.S. intelligence who becomes a hunted man after he is not among the victims of a mass murder of his colleagues. Faye Dunaway does solid work as the frightened and mystified woman whom he forces to conceal him, and Max von Sydow is appropriately cool ...

Seventh Seal

Seventh Seal

»rank: 13680

avec: Gunnar Björnstrand, Bengt Ekerot, Nils Poppe, Max von Sydow, Bibi Andersson
réalisé par: Ingmar Bergman

Chroniques et points de vue:From Amazon.co.uk:lngmar Bergman's 1956 film, The Seventh Seal has been parodied by everyone from Woody Allen to Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, but it remains one of the strangest and richest classics of world cinema. Max Von Sydow plays a knight returning from the Crusades to encounter an apocalyptic scenario inspired by the Book of Genesis. He plays chess with Death (Bengt Ekerot), sees a manacled witch, watches a band of flagellants go by--all of it foretelling an inevitable end to life. Unabashedly allegorical and lyrical and existing in a ...

On paper, the Mio DigiWalker P550 looks to be an attractive gadget for the mobile professional, combining the capabilities of a PDA and GPS into one device. However, its poor battery life and subpar navigation skills tell a different story.

Though it won't appeal to the masses quite yet, the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet is a nice, portable device for on-the-go Web browsing, and it has some worthy upgrades.

Though it has a few design and performance glitches, the Sony Ericsson W300i is a quality, basic MP3 cell phone.

Diesel vehicles have nearly a 50-percent market share in Europe, thanks to tax incentives and diesel-friendly legislation across the EU. Diesels are so passé there that you can buy a BMW 730d and no one will think it odd that your luxury car burns oil. Pull up in a diesel 7-Series in America and people would leer at you like you've alighted from an amphibious vehicle reeking of saltwater and dead trout.

But now, thanks to the oft-reported combo of newly-raised CAFE standards, not-so-newly-raised gas prices, and the 50-state diesel engine, GM, Ford, and Chrysler are about to dip more than a hesitant toe into the diesel game. Chrysler offers a diesel in the Grand Cherokee, but soon all three automakers will offer diesels in their best-selling lineups of light trucks -- the Dodge Ram 1500 is expected to offer a 50-state diesel after 2009. Light trucks are being used to lead the charge since those buyers stand to gain the most with the least amount of (perceived) sacrifice.

Diesels currently have 3.2-percent of the American market. Some estimates put them at 15-percent by 2015. That's a huge leap, and diesel still has plenty of hurdles. Diesels will come with a cost premium over gasoline-engined cars. That should be easy enough to conquer -- incentives and some quick cost and longevity calculations should convince people of the benefit. The real hurdle is the nagging issue of perception. The plan will probably be to attack that with a price that makes the proposition unbeatable. Said Chrysler's director of environmental affairs, "If it's priced right, we can sell diesel here. Diesel can give you an immediate poke in fuel economy -- 20 to 40 percent. Not many technologies can deliver that today."
