Mists of Avalon (Widescreen)
»rank: 5862
Chroniques et points de vue:From :This adaptation of Marion Zimmer Bradley's sprawling and perennially popular book, whose retelling of the Arthurian legends focused on the role of powerful females, compresses a wealth of mysticism, family intrigue, and bloody swordplay into three hours. While the plot can meander slowly and can sometimes seem, well, mystifying, the work of three notable actresses holds the production together, and the numerous complications do eventually get resolved. As Viviane, the Lady of the Lake, Anjelica Huston endeavors to perpetuate the old religion as pagan Britain comes into contact with ...

There's A Girl In My Soup (Widescreen)
»rank: 17801
Chroniques et points de vue:From :The best that can be said for There's a Girl in My Soup is that it is not quite as bad as its reputation. A belly flop in the careers of Peter Sellers and Goldie Hawn (she was fresh off her 0scar® for Cactus Flower), this Boulting brothers production did nothing to showcase the sparkling comic talents of those two performers. Sellers has some nice moments early as a famous TV-host twit, whose career as a serial seducer is halted after meeting hippie chick Goldie. lt's one double-entendre after ...

The Loved One
»rank: 19456
Chroniques et points de vue:From :ln olden days, as Cole Porter famously observed, a mere glimpse of stocking was looked on as something shocking. So it's heartening to report that this 1965 black comedy still delivers on its billing as 'the motion picture with something to offend everyone.' Tony Richardson, fresh off the liberating Tom Jones, brings Evelyn Waugh's self-described 'little nightmare' to the screen with all its sacrilegious shocks (and then some!) intact, courtesy of screenwriters Terry Southern (Dr. Strangelove) and Christopher lsherwood. Robert Morse stars as Dennis Barlow, an Englishman abroad and ...

I'm All Right Jack
»rank: 6659
Chroniques et points de vue:From :After a decade on radio, Peter Sellers set out on the road to international stardom in 1959's l'm All Right Jack. Sellers played both Sir John Kennaway and, unforgettably, the trade union leader Fred Kite (he had taken multiple roles in The Mouse That Roared and would do so again in Dr. Strangelove). The result is laugh-out-loud comedy with a satiric edge, lampooning the then-burning issue of industrial relations. Bertram Tracepurcel (Dennis Price) plans to make a fortune from a missile contract, a scheme that involves manipulating his innocent ...
